Bassano in Teverina travel guide
History

The center of Bassano in Teverina is located on a spur of tuff stone, with the Roncione river to the south. It used to be in a very strategic position, since travelers coming from the west would have to pass the village on their way to the Tiber.
There were settlements in Etruscan times, but these were abandoned when the Romans took over. In the 9th and 10th centuries the village became populated again.
In the 2nd part of the 11th century Countess Matilda di Canossa gave Bassano and other villages in the area to Pope Gregorius VII.
