History and description

The Beato Vergine di Monserrato is a small church and is the only building in Alessandria that still bears witness to the long Spanish rule over the city.
The church is in the square of the same name, next to a 19th-century building run by Salesian nuns as a nursery.
The Beata Vergine di Monserrato Church was probably also founded by a Spaniard. Matheo Otanez was governor of Alessandria between 1625 and 1627.
What to see
In a niche near the entrance is a fresco depicting the “Madonna di Monserrato”.
Near the tabernacle is a “Black Madonna”, probably by a 17th-century Spanish artist.
