The Ponte Vecchio is one of the Top 10 Tourist Attractions in Florence and one of the most romantic spots in Italy. A walk along the river Arno shows that this is not the only beautiful bridge in the city, however. Especially at sunset reflections of the stately buildings lining its banks turn the river into an almost magical place.

Ponte Vecchio

The Ponte Vecchio (“Old Bridge”) is one of the most famous bridges in the world and one of the most romantic attractions in one of the most romantic cities in the world: Florence. It is so impressive that the Germans during World War II decided against destroying it.
Ponte alla Carraia

Since the Ponte alla Carraia was the first bridge to be constructed after the Ponte Vecchio, it was originally called Ponte Nuovo. The oldest version of this “New Bridge” stems from 1218. Giotto was (probably) responsible for a reconstruction in 1333 and Ammanati for another one in 1557. The present five arch version was constructed in 1948.
Ponte Santa Trinità

The Ponte Santa Trinità is a bridge in the centre of the city. Apart from being a very beautiful bridge itself, it is also one of the best places to see the famous Ponte Vecchio. The Ponte Santa Trinità is named after the nearby church.
