History and description

Caffè Meletti

The Caffè Meletti was built between 1882 and 1884 as Palazzo delle Poste e Telegrafi. Since 1907 it has served as a café.

Over the years, Ernest Hemingway, Jean Paul Sarte and Simone de Bouvoir, among others, have enjoyed coffee and the house specialty, anisetta con la mosca (anisetta with a coffee bean), distilled by the café itself.

In 1990 it was bought by the Fondazione Carisap. This foundation also had it thoroughly restored, after which it was reopened only in 1998.

The Caffè Anisetta Meletti has often been used as a backdrop in Italian films.
