History and description

The “Historical Museum of the Military Unit of the Carabinieri” was founded in 1925. However, it was only inaugurated in 1937 in the presence of King Vittorio Emanuele III.

The building itself dates from the end of the 19th century. With the exception of some exterior decorations by the architect Sciopione Tadolini, the palace has hardly changed since its construction.

The museum has 23 rooms. The collection consists of weapons, documents and other material relating to the history of the Corps. There are also works of art dedicated to the Carabinieri.

It is arranged both chronologically and by theme.

There is a monument to the carabinieri who died while performing their duties. In the Hall of Honour (Salone d’Onore) there are plaster casts of the bronze statues made by Edoardo Rubino in 1933 for the National Monument to the Carabiniere in the garden of the Royal Palace in Turin.

The Carabinieri are a military unit. In reality, they have more or less the same tasks as the Polizia.
