History and description

The collection of the Casa delle Marionette consists almost entirely of the so-called Monticelli Collection. The Monticelli family was famous for their marionette theater. Later, they would also devote themselves to puppetry. The collection spans the work of five generations of this family.

Apart from the puppets used, there are also scenographies and theater posters on display. Many of the masks are typical of traditional puppet theater in the region.

Part of the exhibition is dedicated to the Teatro del Drago, which was founded by Andrea and Mauro Monticelli in 1979.

Guided tours are also organized and one can see how the puppets are made and repaired.
