The Saint Anthony Basilica is one of only four churches belonging to the Vatican State, but not located in the capital. Locals simply call this church “Basilica del Santo”. It receives about 5 million pilgrims per year. The Cappella del Tesoro contains the relic of the Jaw of St. Anthony and the relic of the Incorrupt Tongue of the Saint.
Santa Giustina Abbey
The enormous Santa Giustina Abbey dominates the south side of the Prato della Valle. It was founded in the 6th century and constructed on top of the tomb of St. Justina of Padua. Since 1919 the adjoining monastery is the seat of the State Library of the National Monument of Santa Giustina.
Chiesa degli Eremitani
The 13th century Chiesa degli Eremitani is famous for the Ovetari Chapel. Unfortunately many of the sumptuous decorations were damaged during the war. Mantegna‘s paintings in this chapel have now been restored.
