Since Pisa for centuries was an important Maritime State, there are still many beautiful historic buildings to be seen in the centre. Most of them also show influences of architectural styles from other cultures around the Mediterranean Sea.

Leaning Tower

The most famous building in Pisa, and one of the most famous in the world, is the Leaning Tower. Its construction began in the 12th century, but was not completed until two centuries later. At the moment, the more than 50 meter tall Torre Pendente leans over about 5 meters.
Palazzo dell’Orologio
The Palazzo dell’Orologio is a historic building in Piazza dei Cavalieri, the main square of the city. It was created in the 17th century by merging two existing palaces.
Palazzo Mosca



The Palazzo Mosca is a historic palace, which actually consists of several buildings joined together. The oldest parts of the building date from the 12th century. Together with the adjacent Palazzo Gambacorti it serves as the town hall of the city.
Palazzo Blu
The Palazzo Blu (“Blue Palace”) is a historic building in the centre of the city. It was also created by merging several existing buildings. It is now used mainly for exhibitions and other events.
Logge di Banchi



The Logge di Banchi stands at the Ponte di Mezzo on the southern bank of the river Arno. The building is the seat of the State Archives and is located right next to the Torre dell’Orologio.
