History and description
The Santa Maria Mater Domini Church was probably founded in the 10th century by the Zane and Cappello families.
Originally the church was dedicated to Santa Cristina. This name survived until at least the 12th century.
Its present aspect is the result of a reconstruction in the early years of the 16th century. The direction of this reconstruction was in the hands of either Mauro Codussi or Giovanni Buora.
However, the elegant Renaissance façade was designed by Jacopo Sansovino only in 1540.
The interior of the church consists of a single nave, with a dome and four side chapels.
