Michelangelo’s David is one of the most famous statues in the world. It originally stood in the Piazza della Signoria in Florence, but can now be visited in the Galleria dell’Accademia in the same city. If you don’t feel like visiting the gallery, a copy can still be seen in the square.

History and description
The David weighs no less than 5,500 kilos and is 4.16 meters tall.
Originally Michelangelo had the statue placed at the Palazzo Vecchio, but because the weather started taking its toll, it was decided in 1873 to exhibit the David in the Galleria dell’Accademia.
In the middle of the 19th century cracks were already observed in the creation of the Italian genius Michelangelo Buonarroti, especially in the left leg and in the tree stump attached to the right leg. These are probably the result of the fact that the statue has been standing at an angle of about 5 degrees for a long time.
In addition, the block of marble from which Michelangelo sculpted his David was not of the best quality. Two other artists had wanted to use it before, but had stopped using it.
