History and description

The Museo Lapidario of Avezzano was founded in 1888. The collection consists mainly of various tombs found in the area of Marsica. Most of these come from the archaeological excavations at Alba Fucens.

Another part of the collection shows the many Roman, medieval and Renaissance objects found during the reclamation of the lake.

One of these is a part of a rose window of an old Romanesque church.

The collection is smaller than it should have been. Several objects were stolen from the museum, first after the earthquake and later after the bombing in World War II.
