Museo Nazionale di San Matteo

San Matteo Museum - Crucifix of Pisa

The National Museum of San Matteo is located in the Piazzetta San Matteo in Soarta, along the river Arno. It is housed in an old medieval monastery with a beautiful Gothic façade. It is not the best organized museum in the world, but it offers an excellent impression of the art produced in Pisa and Florence between the 12th and 17th centuries.


Antique Boat Museum

The Museum of Antique Boats (Arsenale Medicea) is a fairly new museum that was specially created when a number of antique boats were accidentally found. In the museum 16 old ships can be seen, the newest of which dates from the 5th century.


Domus Mazziniana

The Domus Mazziniana has its seat in the Palazzo Nathan-Rosselli, a historic building in Pisa. It is in this palace that Giuseppe Mazzini breathed his last in 1872. The museum is currently closed.


Botanical Museum

The Pisan Botanical Gardens were built as early as the 16th century and are among the oldest in the world. The Giardini Botanici were commissioned by the Medici family. There is also a Botanical Museum on the grounds of this attraction.
