Ovindoli is a small town in the province of L’Aquila in Abruzzo. It is located at an altitude of about 1,400 meters between Monte Velino and the Sirente mountains. It is a popular tourist destination, especially in winter, when there is skiing on Monte Magnola.

A brief history of Ovindoli
Ovindoli began its existence as a refuge for the inhabitants of the valley when they were attacked by the barbarians between the 11th and 13th centuries.
What to see in Ovindoli
The main tourist attractions are the fortress in the suburb of San Iona, the ruins of an imperial villa from the Roman period, and a medieval castle in San Potito. Bears and wolves can sometimes be found in the area.
Hikes



One of the biggest attractions for hikers is the so-called Gole di Celano. This is 12 kilometer long canyon, one of only few in Italy, between Ovindoli and Celano.
