Guidebooks often make fun of the Vittorio Emanuele Monument in Rome and its rather elaborate architecture, as the nicknames “wedding cake” and “typewriter” testify. Some even go as far as saying that the best aspect of visiting the Complesso is that it is the only point from where you don’t have to look at the eyesore.

History and description
Not everybody knows that the Complesso Vittoriano, apart from housing a couple of museums, also has a panoramic lift offering one of the most beautiful panoramas Rome has to offer.
There is also a cafe, which has the same opening hours as the elevator. If you don’t feel like paying for the lift, for the price of a coffee you can enter the terrace of this cafe and still enjoy a gorgeous view over the Forum Romanum.
