History and description

The name pieve instead of the usual chiesa, indicates that it is a church in the countryside. Even though nowadays this is not the case anymore, the old name stuck.
The church shows some typical medieval features, such as the irregular walls, the portal and some openings closed in the meantime.
It has a single nave, with a small, square apse at the end, called scarsella. The bell tower is located at the rear of the structure.
The exterior is characterized by three Gothic-looking monophores, with openings narrowing inward.
A plaque indicates that the church was restored in 1579.
What to see
The interior is divided into four sections separated by semicircular arches. The ceiling is made of wood.
Some 13th century decorations remain, including a baptismal font, two capitals and some formellas.
The painting near the main altar, “Madonna with Sant’Antonio Abate, Santa Lucia and the Priest with the Monster of the Vignacci,” refers to a legendary monster that infested the area and was killed by a priest. The painting dates back to the 17th century.
