History and Description
The Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna is located on the second floor of the Orsini-Colonna Castle.
The works on display come from an art competition that was held in the city every year between 1949 and 2001. The competition was originally called Mostra Marsicana di Pittura and was later renamed to Premio Avezzano.
Later, a number of works donated by private collectors were added to the collection.
The collection consists mostly of paintings and abstract sculptures..
The space is fairly limited, but it does present a good overview of Italian visual art of the past half century. Artists whose works are on display include Mario Schifano, Luigi Veronesi, Mauro Sguanci and Mauro Reggiani.
