The province of Naples (città metropolitana di Napoli) is the main province of the Campania region. Apart from the capital Naples, the largest cities are Giuliano in Campania, Torre del Greco and Pozzuoli. The islands Procida, Ischia and Capri are also part of the province.

In 2015 the province of Naples was officially converted into the Metropolitan City of Naples. The former province consists of 92 cities.
Naples
The capital, and biggest city, with around one million inhabitants, is Naples. In recent years, after a massive clean-up operation in the center, Naples has become a popular tourist destination. Some of the highlights are the Archaeological Museum, the Piazza del Plebiscito and the Spaccanapoli.
Mount Vesuvius, Pompei and Herculaneum
One of the biggest and most famous attractions outside the city is Mount Vesuvius. In the year 79 AD an eruption of this volcano covered the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum with an enormous layer of lava and ashes.
The present-day city of Pompeii is not really worth seeing. However, the excavated ruins of the Roman city of Pompeii buried in the year 79 by a huge layer of ash and lava are among Italy’s most important and best-visited tourist attractions.
Sorrento
Sorrento, on the peninsula of the same name, is mostly famous because of its views over the Bay of Naples. These views include the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida.
Torre del Greco
Torre del Greco is one of the province’s biggest cities. It is located between the Vesuvius and the Gulf of Naples and is particularly famous for a stretch of beach called the Miglio d’Oro.
