Most of Rome‘s shopping centers are located far outside the city center, usually more or less along the consular roads that carry out the city, just off the Grande Raccordo Anulare ring road. This is due to a chronic lack of parking spaces in the center, as well as the impossibility of constructing large new modern buildings within Rome’s old city walls. The only shopping mall in the historical center, the Galleria Alberto Sordi, is being closed for renovation.
