History and description
The San Giovannino Church already existed in the 15th century. It is also called the Chiesa del Santissimo Crocifisso (“Church of the Most Holy Crucifix”), because a precious crucifix was venerated there. A major renovation took place between the years 1708 and 1717. A second renovation in the same century enlarged the church and a final restoration took place in 1991.
What to see
The facade consists of two levels and is decorated with various sculptures. These depict successively “Hope and Charity”, “San Carlo”, “San Carlo Evangelista” and “Faith”.
The bas-relief above the portal dates from the 16th century.
The interior has a single nave, with four chapels. It is graced with a number of wooden sculptures depicting scenes from the Bible including a “Crucifixion” in the apse.
