History and description

The oldest document mentioning the church dates back to the year 1065. However, it is likely that the church was built much earlier, on the ruins of a temple dedicated to the war god Mars.
Over the centuries, the San Michele Arcangelo Church has been rebuilt and restored many times. The last time was in 1884.
Artworks
The most important work in the church is the “Sant’Anna” painted by Agostino Caracci in 1626. Together with his brother Annibale, this painter is famous for the frescoes in the Palazzo Farnese in Rome. The paintings of the two brothers heralded the transition from the Mannerist to the Baroque style of art.
