History and description
The San Nicola da Tolentino Church was built in the exact spot where an oratory dedicated to the same saint used to be.
The sanctuary was designed by Vincenzo Scamozzi in 1591. The same architect was also responsible for its construction, which lasted from 1591 to 1602.
Andrea Tirali subsequently completed the unfinished facade between 1706 and 1714. The pronaos he designed, with its six Corinthian columns, is a precursor to the neo-classical architectural style.
The interior is graced by several 17th century paintings.
The cloister belonging to the church is nowadays the seat of the University Institute of Architecture.
