San Senatore Catacombs

The Catacombs of San Senatore were built on a site where pozzolana (a type of stone used to make a type of cement) used to be mined. The cemetery was founded between the end of the 3rd and the beginning of the 4th century. Since many saints and martyrs were buried there, the catacombs of San Senatore were quite famous.

The archaeological finds made in the crypt are all exhibited in the Museo Civico Albano.
