History and description

San Vittore Church Ascoli Piceno
Church of San Vittore

The church already existed in the year 966 and is a construction built in the Romanesque style.

The unadorned facade is made of blocks of travertine marble. The only decoration on this facade is a large rose window above the entrance. On the left side is a low bell tower with a sloping roof.

The interior is divided into three naves. These are separated from each other by a number of columns and walls with arches. Both the columns and the walls are decorated with frescoes.

A small staircase leads to the presbytery.

What to see

Under the sacristy is a crypt that used to serve as an ossuary. The crypt is also decorated with frescoes, depicting “Events from the Life of Saint Eustachio.”
