History and description

The Santa Maria dei Cavalieri Gaudenti Church dates back to the 12th century. It is first mentioned as Ecclesia Santa Maria Gaudenti Ferentinatis in some documents from the hand of Pope Innocent IV from the year 1249.
The Cavalieri Gaudenti were knights, who also owned the adjacent Palazzo Gaudenti.
The church was built on the site of a former pagan temple and consists of a single nave.
What to see
One of the four chapels houses a 19th-century painting by Giorgini depicting Santa Caterina della Ruota.
On the floor in front of the entrance is a large image of the eight-pointed Pole Star.
