History and description

The church was originally dedicated only to Saint Sergio della Suburra (Suburra being the name of the neighborhood at the time).
After a reconstruction in 1563, it was dedicated to the Santi Sergio e Bacco.
In 1641 the church was donated to a monastic order based on the writings of Basil the Great, the Monaci Ruteni di San Basilio.
In 1741 the entire complex, including the college newly built by the Order, was renovated by Francesco Ferrari.
In the early 20th century a new restoration (under the direction of E. Banali) took place. The college was transformed into a kind of hostel for pilgrims from Ukraine.
The facade dates back to 1896. The entrance itself dates back to the 17th century.
The interior is characterized by a single nave. The ceiling is decorated with frescoes. The painting above the main altar depicts the Madonna del Pascolo. This painting was discovered under a layer of white paint in 1718 and placed in its present location in 1730.
