One of the biggest and most interesting attractions of Orvieto is its Underground city tour. Although the caves were mostly dug during the city’s Etruscan past, they also contain other elements, such as an entire medieval mill.

History and description
One of the most interesting parts of Orvieto is not immediately visible. Underneath the historical part of the city, there is a network of subterranean passages, including a workshop where ceramics were made and worked in the Middle Ages. Another highlight is an Etruscan tomb that was used in the Middle Ages for processing textiles. Along the tour you will also see sites where waste used to be dumped. These sites are obviously of immense archaeological value.
