A brief history of the Via Volte della Pace in Perugia

The Via Volte della Pace is a quite remarkable street, since it is almost completely shielded by the vaults of the buildings towering above it. The name of the street therefore means “Street of the Vaults of Peace”.

The Via Volte della Pace follows the winding Etruscan wall on which it was built. Parts of this wall, by the way, are visible in many of the stores lining the Via Alessi, but below the Via della Pace itself.

In the past, there used to be porticoes from which it was possible to view the entire Tiber valley.

At the end of the street you will find the Piazza Danti and the Piazza Piccinino at the Porta Sole.
