History Villa of Nero Anzio

The Villa di Nerone was built in the Republican period, according to a perfectly symmetrical project. Nero had this original construction leveled with the ground in order to be able to be able to build a much larger complex.

In the course of time, different owners had various modifications and extensions made to the complex.

The first major occupant of the Villa di Nerone was probably Emperor Augustus.

Highlights

The best preserved and most interesting remains of the villa are formed by the floors, sometimes made of simple stones but more often of precious marble.

In the park of the villa there were also other buildings, which were connected to the villa itself by lanes and porticoes.
