History Alexanderplatz Rome

When Alexanderplatz opened its doors in 1982, the owner was called crazy. A jazz cafe in Rome, in the Prati district even, far from the famous Roman nightlife districts of Trastevere and Testaccio? He was told that his project was bound to fail.

Meanwhile, Alexanderplatz is Rome’s jazz cafe and has hosted famous musicians, such as Chet Baker, Archie Shepp and Wynton Marsalis. And like all the other musicians who have played there, they too have left their autographs on the walls of Alexanderplatz.

The owner Giampiero Rubei named Alexanderplatz after the famous Berlin square. Rubei sees his creation as a meeting place, and to him squares symbolize meeting places par excellence.

The cuisine at Alexanderplatz is Mediterranean, the bar American.
