Castello Orsini-Odescalchi Bracciano

Although the Orsini-Odescalchi Castle of Bracciano is private property, it is open to visitors. There is a museum showcasing the history of the castle and of the families that owned it, but it is also used as a venue for celebrity weddings. What to see

Castello Orsini-Odescalchi
The castle seen from the Piazza IV Novembre.

Inside you can admire courtyards, loggias, hanging gardens and breathtaking views of Lake Bracciano. The visit includes frescoed rooms, many containing the original furnishings and decorations.

Courtyard Odesclachi-Orsini Castle
One of the castle courtyards. The statue of the bear is reference to the Orsini family, “orso” meaning “bear” in Italian.

From the courtyards you can access some spaces that in similar castles often are not shown to visitors, such as the kitchen.

Hanging gardens

The beauty of the hanging gardens is enhanced by the views of Lake Bracciano.

The castle houses rooms decorated with extraordinary frescoes by famous painters such as Antoniazzo Romano and the Zuccari brothers.

Historical Collections

The historical collection includes bust of the 12 Caesars, weapons (many weapons), a 16th century hourglass and an 18th-century Sicilian wrought-iron bed.

Built by the Orsini family in the second half of the 15th century, the castle was purchased more than 2 centuries later by the Odescalchi family, who still own it today.
