Onano is a small town in the province of Viterbo. It is located in a hilly region, just north-west of Lago di Bolsena and almost on the border with the Tuscany region.

Public transport. Onano does not have a railway station. From Viterbo, take a Co.Tral bus to San Lorenzo Nuovo and then another Co.Tral bus to Onano (NB: on Sundays it is impossible to reach the town by public transport).

Apart from the Castello Monaldeschi della Cervara (also known as Palazzo Madama), the town’s main tourist attractions are the Santa Croce Church, the Santa Maria della Concezione Church and the Madonna delle Grazie Church.
A brief history of Onano
The history of the town is closely linked to the struggle between the Guelphs and the Ghibellines, the former favoring the Pope and the latter disputing the secular power of the good man. Among others, the Monaldeschi and the Sforza were feudal lords of Onano.
By car to Onano
The town is located about 40 kilometers north of Viterbo and a little more than 100 kilometers north of Rome. From Viterbo, take the SR2 northwards, passing Lago di Bolsena and then the SS489 to Latera. From here take the SP49 to the north.
