In the early 18th century, both the church and its convent were further expanded.
In 1906, religious orders were abolished. When this happened, the monastery was divided into several parts, with different functions.
The San Donato Church is built in the Romanesque style. Its facade is characterized by a lunette and a rose window. The bell tower ends in pyramidal spire.
The tomb of Vanni and Emanuele Appiani was created by Andrea Guardi.
The so-called Volto Santo di Lucca is a panel depicting Christ during the crucifixion, between the Saints Rocco and Jerome.
