History and description
The Torre degli Ercolani is the city tower located right next to the Palazzetto Longobardo. It is the best preserved tower in the city and was built around the 12th/13th century.
It is about 35 meters high and becomes narrower as it rises. The floor plan is square.
The Torre degli Ercolani has very few windows.
There is an entrance door on Via dei Soderini. This has an architrave, with a triangular opening above it.
At the back is another entrance door.
In its heyday, there used to be over 200 towers in the city.
